Dunkelweizen - (ale) Dunkel = 'dark'. A Dunkelweizen is a Hefeweizen with dark malts added to the recipe to create a darker and slightly more malty version of the Hefe. The dark malt added is typically called Munich malt and uses the same yeast as a Hefe. This creates a standard Hefeweizen, but darker in color, with the expected cloudiness, banana, clove, and sourness. Examples: Weinenstephaner Hefeweissbier Dunkel, Franiskaner Hefe-Weisse Dunkel.
